Earlier this week one of my old friends became engaged. There was a time in my life when I thought the two of us would still be close by the time she became engaged. We don’t speak anymore. I’m not really sure what happened between the two of us that lead to this. I wish I knew. One day, she just stopped talking to me. I didn’t realize it at the time, I just wrote it off as she was super busy. I guess deep down I knew that in that moment our friendship was over but I just never wanted to admit it. It wasn’t until several months later that I realized that our friendship had been over a long time ago. For a while I felt betrayed, angry and hurt. Worst of all was that I never got a reason for why she stopped talking to me. Not that I asked, but it would still be nice to know why. If it was something that I did or if was simply because we were outgrowing each other. Any reason would be better than no reason at all. For a while I was pretty bitter about the whole situation but now I am learning to let go of the past and be the better person.
I still haven’t congratulated her on her engagement. But I do plan to in the next few weeks. Because even though we are not friends anymore. There was a time not to long ago when I called that girl my best friend.
